Our Founding Story
In 1996, I had lost virtually everything due to my addiction. No vehicles, no money, no job. On June 10th of that year, I was in a place where I thought taking my own life was the only answer.
In the process of that I had a dynamic Spiritual experience. I was rescued by the only source that could. God delivered me, yet not everything was wonderful. I still had no money, no vehicle, and no job.
In order to begin rebuilding my life, I knew I had to get a job, and for that I needed a vehicle. Someone very close to me loaned me a sum of money for the purpose of buying transportation. It wasn’t a great deal of money, so my choices were limited. I found a very old, beaten-up truck, but it ran.
In the process of test driving it (at night), I pulled down the visor. On the visor was written six characters. The first three were my initials. Following that was written: S28.
I didn’t know much about the Bible…
But I thought this might be a message. I looked up the first book in the Bible that begins with an “S” — 1st Samuel. The second number, I assumed, was the chapter “2”. The last number must reference the verse: 1 Sam 2:8.

“He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes and has them inherit a throne of honor. For the foundations of the earth are the Lord’s; on them he has set the world.”
1 Samuel 2:8 (The Holy Bible)

This became the guiding hope
The hope that I was not left in the ash heap, but that He lifted me “Out of the Ashes.”
He can do the same for you.

Our Mission and Purpose
Just as 1 Sam 2:8 became my guiding scripture, I found that others dealing with sex addiction (both the addict and the betrayed partner) feel the loss of hope and abandonment.
The purpose of Out of the Ashes is to fill that gap — to provide services at a much-reduced cost, or free, with a strong faith focus on Christ and His provision of freedom.
Through faith and the process of working the 12 steps, I found hope and a fellowship of people that struggled as I had. I also discovered that while resources existed, most faith-based services were either expensive or non-existent.

Our Long-Term Goals
In 2021, I attended a residential facility focused solely on sex addiction. It was transformative. I also found that many people cannot afford this type of care.
Out of the Ashes hopes to build a 10-person residential facility in the DFW metroplex area, offering services based on a sliding fee scale, with scholarships available for those who cannot afford this much-needed resource.
